algaloo.xyz was founded in 2021 by a team of marine biologists, game designers, and environmental enthusiasts with a mission to create an engaging, educational game that inspires ocean conservation. Based in Tampa, Florida, our team of 9 developers, educators, and artists combines expertise in marine science, game design, and storytelling to craft a unique simulation experience.
Our flagship title, Algaloo: Ocean Guardians, is a marine simulation game that invites players to explore a vast, dynamic ocean ecosystem, build and maintain underwater habitats, and protect marine life from threats like pollution and habitat destruction. The game features over 50 real-world marine species, each with accurate behaviors and conservation needs, and educational content about ocean ecology and sustainability. Players can collaborate with friends to restore coral reefs, rescue injured marine life, and compete in conservation challenges for in-game rewards.
What makes us unique? We blend entertainment with education—every gameplay mechanic is designed to teach players about ocean conservation while keeping the experience fun and engaging. We also partner with marine conservation organizations, donating a portion of in-game purchase proceeds to support real-world ocean protection efforts. Our community is focused on positivity and learning, with forums and social media channels where players can share habitat designs, ask marine science questions, and connect with experts.
Since launching, algaloo.xyz has grown to over 110,000 registered players across 40+ countries. We host monthly conservation events (e.g., virtual beach cleanups, coral restoration challenges), publish a blog with marine science facts and developer insights, and maintain active Discord and Instagram channels. Our commitment to community feedback has led to major updates, including new ocean zones, endangered species content, and cross-platform play support.
Looking to the future, we’re expanding Algaloo: Ocean Guardians with a mobile version optimized for touch controls, a cooperative habitat-building mode, and a "marine biologist career" expansion that lets players conduct virtual research and publish findings. We’re also developing educational modules for schools to use the game as a tool to teach environmental science.
